Choosing Pet Food
Choosing the correct pet food for your animals is one of the most important things you can do as a San Francisco pet owner. If you have children, you are most likely very aware of the necessity of feeding your kids well. As a conscientious parent, you probably tell your kids to eat their vegetables, put fruit in their sack lunches, and make sure they drink enough water when they play in the sun.
While our animals generally have a good grasp on survival techniques (eating enough of the right things), household and caged animals (the ones in your back yard) don't have the option of hunting down much prey or grabbing their favorite can of pet food from the grocery store. Assuming the mouse supply is limited in your home, your cat needs to be fed by a reliable source, which should be you, of course. If you don't want the dog eating the cat, you better feed him too.
How to Choose the Right Food for Your Pets
Choosing the right pet food for your animal can take some time because you have to give your pet enough time to try out all the different types of food available. The good news is that pets aren't usually very picky. They generally prefer canned, or "wet" pet food, but if you only give them hard food, they're eventually going to eat it rather than die. But this type of existence isn't what you want for your pet if you love them. As a San Francisco pet owner, you probably want to be sure they really enjoy their food.
The cheapest and quickest way to find out what the best type of pet food is for your pet is to try out several different kinds each time you buy pet food. For example, instead of buying one huge bag of dry dog food, buy 2 small bags of different kinds. If you want your pet to eat wet (canned) pet food, then buy several different types. When you feed your pet, pay close attention to how they react. Foods that they eat faster are foods they probably like more than others. It's also important to note whether or not they cleaned their dish completely.
If you try out these methods and are unable to find the best pet food for your animals, give our San Francisco veterinarian clinic a call. We can help you determine just what your pet will like.
