How to Remove a Tick

When you realize your pet has a tick attached, there are a number of steps that you need to take to remove the tick. You should realize that ticks are parasites that suck the blood from the host they are attached to. Ticks can also lay eggs in the fur or hair of that animal. Although it is a messy job, it is important that you remove the tick as quickly as possible from your pet. The longer the tick is attached, the more eggs it will lay, and the sicker your pet will become.

To remove the tick, you must first grip the tick as close to the skin as possible. Once you have grabbed the tick close to your pet’s skin, you need to pull the tick straight up. If you hold on to the back of its body, there is a chance that the tick will burst while trying to pull it out. If this happens, the head will still be stuck in your pet, which means a trip to the local San Francisco Vet clinic to retrieve it.

Remember that the tick probably laid eggs on your pet while it was attached, so washing your pet with tick medicine is a necessity. You should also wash any cloth-covered objects with which your pet may have come into contact, because there could be eggs there as well. This could include furniture, clothing, pet’s bedding, and your carpet. If eggs aren’t taken care of quickly, they could hatch and latch onto one of your family members or your pet again.
